New Jersey Lake Mapping: Before and After Dredging

The Mapping Network and Allied Biological recently completed a lake mapping project for a country club in New Jersey.  The client initially requested the creation of a detailed lake map for understanding true depths, volume analysis and to identify areas needed for dredging.  Upon receiving the results of the lake map, the country club was able to efficiently locate areas for dredging and take control of the bidding process.

After the completion of the dredging portion, the country club immediately remapped the lake to verify the dredging company had taken out the correct amount of material and also to establish a new base map.  The new map will be used to generate a lake management plan for water conservation and future dredging.

The lake mapping process allowed the client to make intelligent decisions on their dredging project and gave them the peace of mind knowing the work has been completed properly.

2011 PGA Championship Course Map

The Atlanta Athletic Club (AAC) is the site for the final major in the 2011 golf season.  The AAC is comprised of two 18 hole courses and a Par 3 course.  The Highlands Course is the site for the 93rd PGA Championship from August 8 to 14, 2011. Robert Trent Jones designed the original back nine in 1964 and Joe Finger did the front nine. The course was redesigned for 93rd PGA Championship by Rees Jones. It features Diamond Zoysia Fairways, Champion Ultra-dwarf Bermuda greens and Tifton 10 rough. Highlands is the only course in the world with this grassing combination. It  produces outstanding playing conditions as well as great definition and contrast. An article in the August 2011 issue of Golf Digest featured Highlands’ grasses and ended with this thought, “Mark these words: The turfgrasses of Atlanta Athletic Club make it revolutionary.”

Golf Course GPS Mapping

Golf Course GPS Mapping Provided by The Mapping Network.  Every feature on a golf course can be accurately measured with either a GPS unit or through the use of imagery.  Imagery is a cost effective way to provide the superintendent  and his staff with additional information about the course.  All irrigation and drainage features can be added to the base map providing a detailed inventory of every component of the irrigation system including pipes (type, size, and length), sprinkler heads, valves, drains, and controllers.  This  information is compatible with most irrigation systems (e.g. Toro or Rainbird) and is a great communication tool for grounds personnel.  Save time, save money and increase efficiency:  Could there be a better reason for having an accurate as-built map of your golf course?  Accurate area measurements and square footage of tees, greens, fairways, sand traps, water, rough, and cart paths can be a crucial money saver.  Access to a digital golf course map instantly provides all the critical information needed for successful management and decision-making.   The GIS software calculates the area of each feature and summarizes it in a table.  This comes in handy when ordering seed, sand, and chemicals.   A full color wall map is designed displaying all tees, greens, fairways, bunkers, water bodies, cart paths, club house area, grounds keeper area, practice area and basic perimeter.   Please contact The Mapping Network for more information on golf course GPS mapping.

New Jersey GPS Lake Map

The Mapping Network and Allied Biological completed a lake mapping project for a client in New Jersey.  The client is this case is a community association that manages 6 water bodies. The purpose was to give the client more accurate information about the lake, which had never been mapped to this detail before.  This is their 3rd largest lake and the community has already mapped the two larger lakes with the professionals at The Mapping Network and Allied Biological.   The bathymetry map assists Allied Biological, as their lake managers, in developing better management strategies, ie: determining herbicide application rates,  focusing on areas that may support nuisance plant growth and sediment accumulation, and locate suitable areas for in-lake plantings or aeration systems.

The Mapping Network and Golf Course / Athletic Field Construction Specialist Team Up

The Mapping Network has developed a proprietary process to derive accurate cut and fill calculations utilizing existing digital design (CAD) and the architects proposed design.  Mid-America Golf and Landscape, a Kansas City based Golf Course and Athletic field construction company, has been utilizing this service for several years.  A great benefit of having a digital golf course map is the instant access to area calculations of all course features.  During the bidding process, having access to extremely accurate area measurements and square footages of tees, greens, fairways, sand traps, water, rough, and cart paths allows Mid-America Golf and Landscape to develop an accurate bid.  The Mapping Network also has the capability to accurately calculate cut/fill calculations for the entire course, or hole by hole.  This process allows the contractor to visualize where significant amounts of dirt will be moved, and assists in determining the shortest distance to transfer a load of soil. This can be a crucial money saver for  the owner.
